I use tri-cams in sandstone quite a bit, really good in breaks and point perp pockets but much more fiddly to place than most cams, i have only placed them passively a couple of times after i ran out of wires. Also in hard rock like araps they often wont set, then rattle out (quite off putting on the watchtower faces), in vertical cracks they are much harder to set than a normal cam though once in the smaller ones seem to work well enough, though i havent fallen on one yet and i have heard they can weld in pretty tight when you do.
