Thanks for your replies, I had a feeling A-GPS would incur costs but was more wondering whether the GPS alone would be suitable for the tasks i mentioned. I was told that once you have downloaded a gps application, an internet connection is no longer required, it will operate solely off satellites. Was looking into it hopefully being useful for field work instead of having to buy a dedicated GPS unit as well. The N97 is of particular interest because i can get it free on a good deal. Thanks heaps for the info. If there's more info out there, send it my way. It'd be greatly appreciated Cheers, Gareth.
