It depends why you are buying the gear. If it's in an effort to make yourself happy in your life generally, to make climbing feel safe, because you have some kinky gear fetish or for some other reason.
Maybe if its to make you happy you'd be better trying meditation (maybe some zazen while you're changing nappies). If its to make climbing feel safer, you shouldn't bother. You'll only overcompensate for the illusion of safety the extra gear provides by taking extra risks in your climbing. That's how brains work. As for kinky and other reasons, I can't help you there.
