A few months ago I met a guy who was dead against washing a climbing rope if it has dry treatment. He said that after washing his (dry treated) climbing rope, it's handling properties were adversely affected. I forget exactly what he was getting at, but he did finish by saying that he would rather have leave a dry treated rope dirty than to wash it.

I own a sterling marathon pro, and according to what i read, it has dry treatment within the sheath and the core (correct me if I'm wrong). While I do my best to keep it out of the dirt, I do wonder whether i should wash it like I did my previous rope, when it inevitably becomes dirty. And yes I do know how to properly wash a rope.

Has anyone washed a rope with dry treatment, and if so, did you have any issues?

I also hear that dry treatment also helps keep dirt out of the the core. Could this be a good enough reason not to wash one?
