From this point of view, I think the arcteryx system is safer than a double-back buckle. If you don't thread it properly, it just falls apart. Whereas, if you don't double back a conventional harness, the harness will still stay in place and you may not notice. Don't even get me started on harnesses that have a velcro patch to hold it in place while you buckle up - an accident waiting to happen I think - cut the damn thing off my BD harness.

You absolutely do not have to step into and out of the arcteryx with the speed buckles already done up. The speed buckles are super easy to completely disengage from the straps, even with gloves on. So easy that even on dry land, I often undo the leg loops if I don't feel like stepping into them (great for if you climb after drinking and find standing on one leg tricky). |
