Alpine Touring Binding recommendations 15-May-2009 At 9:06:52 AM jono

I agree with what everyone has said. as far as I know the silvretta bindings are the ONLY bindings fit well to mountainerring boots. They certainly fit well to my asolos boots but these boots don't fit my fritschi freeride bindings.

John it sounds like you want too much. you just cannot get an AT setup that is going to perform well for touring and climbing. it's a compromise. get the silvretta setup if you just want to get to crags but definitely do not expect to be carving any turns. Likewise, do not expect to be able to climb well in any sort of touring boot. It's not hard to fit crampons to them but they don't have enough movement and are normally heavier. My BD crampons fit to my scarpa matrix boots but i'll never climb in them. Personally I would never carry climbing gear if i was using my touring setup (ie; AT boots) but if i wanted to go climbing and I had skis with silvreatta bindings i'd use that setup purely for quick transportation...you can also use that setup to explore the surrounds, which makes it worth while to invest in that setup.

Personally i don't think you need to bother with skiing in to any of the crags in oz. blue lake is a 30 min walk from charlottes pass and from guthega it's only 3 hours with a heavy load. I've actually bought snow shoes for this season after i endured 3 days of snow plodding around the vic alps and i'd use them to get to blue lake. In the snowy forests snowshoes are your only option.

There are a few places you can hire AT gear from and if i was you i would just do that this season.
