I am sorry to hear about your accident and I hope that you heal quickly. It sounds like you were taking care and unfortunately the rock broke at an inopportune time.
Often the descent can be more dangerous than the ascent for a number of reasons (like the descent off the back of piccolo which IMHO is as hard and more dangerous than the route itself). The installation of the multitude of rap stations around the mount has simplified the descent process and eliminated a number of dicky downclimbs but there are still some areas where conservative judgement will always be required. Even a fall from a metre or two could break bones.
