One of the first lessons I learnt, and keep trying to drum into my junior relatives, is work out your descent before you go up. Even climbing trees, scrambling when bushwalking etc. can develop into a gnarly descent. Sometimes getting off a climb takes longer than doing it. Going up is often the easy part. Sounds like you have learnt a lesson the hard way. You need to exercise judgement, not have a "escape here" button. Thinking back to some descents I have done I could easily be in a similar situation (ie injured). But I would be questioning myself for making the wrong decision eg choosing to down climb rather than rap rather than looking for better "markings". Hope your heel mends, nasty injury.
