The sobering bit is that two days before that incident myself and my climbing partner bailed from our second day on Lurking Fear (over to the left on El Cap) after I took a fall and he somehow got his finger squished in the ensuing excitement at the belay.
Not nearly as high-excitement as that rescue, but still a bit of a but-for-the-grace-of-god-there-go-I (or at least my partner) moment when I read about it...
