I think given the safety aspects it's probably not a bad idea to put peoples names out there. No one should go beyond giving a warning and certainly any deflamatory remarks should be kept to ones self, but if you've had a bad experience with someone i don't see any reason not to tell other climbers about....
1. the situation you found yourself in
2. what went wrong
3, how it went wrong, and
4. specifically WHY it went wrong
.. ie..
"I hooked up with this climber, his name was 'Climby McClimber', we were at Crag X (not the website, obviously) and i was 5 clips up when i took a fall. As I plummeted to the ground at ever increasing speed i noticed my belayer was having a mochaccino with Big Bird, i remember this seeming odd at the time because i was sure i left my belayer 5 clips below me... i then had a look to where my belayer should have been and in his place was a stick holding the rope, no ATC or anything and i remember thinking "that's potentially unsafe"... then i decked.
1. about the situation you found yourself in - See above
2. what went wrong - Belayer needed a caffine fix, left rope attended by an insufficently weighted stick
3, how it went wrong - I fell, my bad
4. specifically WHY it went wrong - Big Bird is partially to blame, but the belayer should have had the mochaccino to go"
If we stick to the facts and not get into a sledging match as a group we should be able to weed out at least some of the bad belayers, or at the very least force them to pull their heads in.
But that's just my two cents :)
