Perfect timing on this question, as I am suffering rib damage myself at the moment. I was on a week long ski tour several weeks ago, and had rigged my big SLR camera in its bag in front of my chest of the pack straps with cord and clips. The idea was quick access on the move, as this was the most spectacular ski trip of my life (Mt Whitney area, US Sierra Nevada) and I was pretty excited about the photo op's. Anyway, variable snow mid trip and I buried a ski tip and face planted at moderate speed. Landed with full body weight + heavy pack weight on my chest, but with the SLR camera between me and the ground. It was like getting hit in the chest with a sledge hammer. When the breath came back I was amazed I seemed OK (and the camera) and skied another 3 or 4 days (didn't have a choice) with moderate discomfort. The fun started at home following the trip, and continues. Painful sleeping, laughing, hugging, etc. I start a commercial fishing season ion Alaska in a few weeks, so hoping things are feeling better by then, as that work is a wee but physical! |
