First step...get an x-ray. Important to rule out a fracture (like an epiphyseal fracture...one to google!). Seeing as you will be at your gp to get the referral for one of these, may as well grab a script for some good anti-inflammatories. Coupled with rest (yes that means no climbing!) ice, a bit of self massage (of the finger) and gentle bending and straightening that should get you started. If the X-ray is clear (most likely) then it is prob just a collateral ligament or joint capsular injury. Good luck!
