The worst examples I've seen of this is actually in the gyms. You're not outside, so there's nothing blocking you from standing close in to the wall and just because you're inside, does that mean you can't get hurt?

Was climbing at a Sydney Gym last year and the leader was about 2/3rds the way up a climb and the belayer was, no joke, standing ~10m away from the base of the route with the slack going from his device, running along the ground to below the first draw and then up to the climber. We were about to say something to this bloke, but we then saw a gym employee walk up so decided that he'd be the best person to deal with it. But to our surprise, the employee went up to the belayer and started having a convo about what he'd ticked that weekend and then left without saying a word about the belay...

Darwinism at its best...
