one thing no one has highlighted, is the commonly used, yet dodgy belying practice of standing too far back from the base of the route. very commonly used in gyms and sport crags. you know the pose. gri gri in one hand or hanging free slight bow of slack, other hand explaining sequence / eating food, whilst looking anywhere else except the climber.... sacrafice your view of the route, perving on the girl on the route next door, or getting food / drink. stand in close and pay attention. especially at the start of routes or on short ones. doesn't matter how many bolts there is or the run out if you have enough rope out thats greater than the fall distance.
