Yeah, i was climbing with him. He's ok. He fractured two of his transverse processes (the wingy bits that stick out of the vertibrae), but no other serious injuries. Apparently these fractures shouldn't be a problem and he was discharged from hospital around 22:00 last night.

He fell while leading unethical in the mezzaluna area, mt york. He had slack out in his hand on the 3rd clip when his right hand popped and he fell 4m to the deck (the rope didn't catch him at all). Considering how far he fell and the big pointy rock that he landed on he was so lucky to get away with the injuries he has.

I went up to clean the climb after he was airlifted out. There's no way to eliminate the risk of a ground fall on that clip, and the holds available are ok but pretty goey for a clip onto a carrot for a grade 17 climb.
