"RESCUE efforts to reach an Australian climber stranded on New Zealand's Aoraki/Mt Cook have been hampered by bad weather.
NZPA reports the 34-year-old is at Kelman Hut, at 2450m, with 14 other climbers, three guides, and two search and rescue personnel. His situation is worsened however by a suspected collapsed lung.
Bad weather prevented any attempt to fly him to hospital yesterday, but rescue teams were dropped off with oxygen and pain relief for the man, who has not been named. It is hoped another attempt can be made to airlift him to hospital tomorrow, Department of Conservation ranger Ray Bellringer told NZPA.
The climber was among a group on an instruction course when he took ill at about midday yesterday, NZPA said."
