thanks for good wishes ambyeok. This is actually second knee I had operated. 8 yrs ago i went to gym after a long break from rockclimbing (>10yrs), thought I'm still as flexible and strong as years ago so I've put my left foot on a hold at maybe waist level, pushed hard and heard a cracking sound inside of my left knee, this was the inner side meniscus. Hoped it would somehow heal but after a few months, the cracked piece broke away and the knee locked up. So arthroscopy was the only option. Back then, the surgeon did not send me to physio to help with recovery, this could be why my left knee still hurts sometimes and I have to be careful with it. Then while my left knee was sick, my right one started hurting, perhaps because of me limping. Then it recovered, then started hurting again etc. Last year I went trekking/mountaineering and by the end of the trip, it was hurting a lot while walking down. Then again it recovered. In June, after some gym climbing, it became painful again and never fully recovered so I decided to go for operation. Heaps of loose bits cleaned up. Same story, the inner meniscus. I guess it all could be a consequence of my hard mountaineering years but one thing I know is we need to be more careful as we become older. Especially in gyms as there is not as much variety there as is on natural rock. My advice to you is watch you knee very carefully, perhaps try to find out which moves could be potentially harmful for it. If you hold on for operation for too long, a larger piece may break out- that's what my surgeon said. Good luck. |
