Had a bucket handle tear in my medial meniscus repaired 6 weeks ago. Its not pleasant, especially as the recovery period is much longer than a removal (3-6months as opposed to about 6 weeks) but I'm glad he did it as I'm less likely to get arthritis later. Like you, it didn't trouble me too much but I'm happy I had it done - I could never squat down and I just wasn't confident using that leg properly.
