Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID). Other members of the class are dicolfenac (voltaren) and naproxen (naprosyn). Use of NSAIDs for minor muscle injuries and soreness has not been well researched. There are some concerns that the anti-inflammatory drugs may actually impair healing of injuries... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10623981?ordinalpos=5&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_DefaultReportPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum
There are some other potentially serious side effects to consider too, such as gastric erosions, as pointed out by prb, and renal failure and bleeding as well.
A class of drugs related to the NSAIDs, the Cox-II inhibitors, have been linked to excess cardiac mortality.
I suggest that if you're sore, consider using an NSAID, on a full stomach, when you're rehydrated, but that it's probably not a great long term strategy.
