Get some advice wendy. if it has appeared in your pinky first you may be one of those who has a genetic predisposition to it rather than the other (predominant) category which is joint changes due to trauma. Either way if you immobilise the joint it will assist the degenerative process not prevent it. The approach is basically no different treatment wise but you should know what you have (and again it MAY become evident in other fingers down the track IF it's genetically predisposed). As many have stated here and in other forums do not seek professional advice unkless they have a direct understanding of not only the diagnosis (Ms Smith you have condition X) but what that actually means for now and the future considering you are an active person.
