I tend to tie to a ground anchor if I'm lead belaying indoors on certain walls. not tied so i have zero room to move, but enough to prevent me getting sucked up to the first draw, gives the leader a dynamic belay and saves me face planting into the wall... win win. It would be interesting to know why "experienced" belayers can't see the advantages of the Simple 5 step belay method?? And when nobody gains from cutting corners it's puzzling!
