facts are that climbing gyms are unsafe.
take a look around, his/her hair isnt tied back, belayers not paying attention, knots incorrectly tied, missing draws on lead, badly laid out lead climbs with fall zones being too close to other climbers, holds falling off, chalk dust inhalation.......blah,blah
so whats "unsafe" mean
no mats climber hurt-unsafe
mats down, gap in mats, climber hurt-unsafe
more mats, climber rolls aknkle (mats to firm/soft), climber hurt-unsafe
tendon unfriendly holds, climber hurt-unsafe
climbing gym requires all patrons to be wrapped in pillows in order to climb 1m of the deck above feather filled pit, on a triple top rope, anchors (and wall) strong enough to hold 747-safe?
So in your opinion whats safe then for a climbing gym?
"BTW isn't the campus board at Flem bloody high?"-then dont climb so high but i suppose we cant let people think for themselves can we.
What so special about the mats at Hardrock? I'm sure there nice but its only a matter of time before somehurts themselves there as well.
my reference to climbing being a potentiallt dangerous activity has reference, ipso facto peolpe are going to get hurt in some way.
Gareth-your NSS comment is puerile.
No matter how hard you try to make an inherently dangerous activity safe, you will never make it idiot proof. Unless of course you take all the exciting bits out.
