Hope he gets well soon and that it wasn't too bad a break.

I think this highlights the issue of over-zealous testing. I may be jumping to conclusions here, but I often see people testing pieces with all their body(and it sounds to me that this may be the case here). And not only when placing gear whilst climbing, but when testing abseil/belay anchors as well. I have always tried to point out to friends and clients that if you are putting all of your weight into testing an anchor/placement and that placement fails, then you are going to take a tumble. All that is required is to use arms only when testing gear placements instead of your whole body.

Again, here's to a speedy recovering of the injured climber.
