Anniversary Med Update: Yep folks, one year has passed since my incident... Knee dislocation resulting in complete rupture of MCL, ACL, PCL; large bucket-handle tear to meniscus; and some avulsion fractures etc etc...
That meant being in a brace, non-weightbearing for a while which led to DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis- Blood clots)...
Eventually following months of Physio, with the MCL having healed naturally, and after being referred to a second Orthopaedic Surgeon who was proposing a single operation to repair the rest, I developed horrendous nerve pain in my opposite hip and leg... This was probably worse than the knee injury in many ways...
Anyway months later after the nerve pain issue had mostly subsided, it was coming into winter and I wanted to get a few winter alpine climbing trips which meant I couldn't afford to go back to any of the Ortho's so still no progress there...
So where exactly am I now? Well, essentially nothing has been done, apart from physio... but fortunately I have apparently been way ahead of the curve the whole time despite my frustrations... doing things which many people are not able to with similar injuries ... Have been off track bushwalking, backcountry snow shoeing, ice climbing, rock climbing etc and looking at getting back into some serious rock climbing soon....
Will I get an operation?? Buggered if I know... I have been in two minds about it the whole time and am simply unable to commit, mainly because it all sounds a bit painful and has a long recovery time etc...
So for the time being I think I'll just have a hack with the knee as it is, try and get a few projects finished and worry about it all further down the track... at least if I injure myself now I can't do too much damage to it ...
Cheers.... |
