Cheap Alpine Course in NZ !!

Is anyone interested in doing a Technical Mountain Course this summer ? If others are interested it may be possible to hire an instructor/guide privatly and do the course a little cheaper than offered through guiding companies. It could also be an opportunity to tailor the course to suit the groups needs and possibly cover stuff in a shorter amount of time (and make the course cheaper again) or get more in depth training in the same amount of time.
If everyone in the group was at the same climbing skill level it would make instruction much easier and would mean that some parts of a normal course could be left out. eg if everyone on the course is a solid multi pitch rock climber hardly any time would need to be spent on rock anchors. eg if everyone on the course knows how to do z-drags and how to escape the belay and how to prussic it would make the crevass rescue part of the course much easier and faster.
This would then leave more time to practice the stuff we dont have a clue about!
So if anyone is interested (or knows anyone who might be interested) please get in touch soon as i am looking to book something in the next month or two (preferably for early-mid Dec so as to be able to get a good season in having done a course) .
It is best to call me on 0401 339 230.
Look forward to hearing from someone

Hi, having spent a fair bit of time around Mt.Cook and Wanaka i would recommend doing somehting with Adventure Consultants or Mt.Aspiring Guides. I did 2 courses with Alpine Guides (TMC & SMC) and although the courses were solid i found that they didn't really push you into areas where you could get more experience. People i have talked to who have done courses with AC & MAG have told me their courses were more individually tailored whereas AGL courses were very structured. Mountaineering is all about getting the experience so the more time you are on the mountain the better. I actually found that the SMC course was a bit of a waste as i didn't even build a snow cave/shelter amongst other things. Hope that helps and good luck!
