Dear Pescador,

I imagine K PM'd you some useful information on places to climb here. You are going to study at V.U.T. and if it happens that you find yourself in the western suburbs of Melbourne your gyms of choice would be: Cliffhanger gym in Altona for rope-climbing and The Lactic Factory for bouldering. As to local crags- Werribee Gorge, Camel's Hump and the You Yangs are all around 45 minutes drive from the inner western suburbs of Melbourne. Victoria's major climbing destinations (Mount Arapiles, The Grampians and Mount Buffalo) are all some five hours drive from Melbourne. Arapiles is accessible by public transport. None of this information will make sense until you are here. I recommend the Lactic Factory as your first port of call. It seems to be the social hub for Melbourne's climbers (Spanish speakers among them!)
