Hi,
There'll probably be a place available in our car, but I can't confirm exactly when we are leaving until a few days before. We (2 or 3 of us) have tentatively arranged to go down on the Thursday, so it may work out.
I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if you get a more definite response.
Cheers,
Petter.

Hey there...
Mind if I join this trip? I'm flying into Melbourne on the morning of Good Friday but I can try to get in Thursday night.
I can arrange my own transport, but I haven't a clue which direction Araps is in - so er, some directions might help. I've got gear (sport only). How far from Melbourne is Araps? I think I've been spoilt rotten because I live half an hour's drive from the local crag I climb at but looking at your posts, it sounds like everything in Australia's really far away...
Anyway, hope to climb this Easter - I seriously need a climbing fix.
Cheers,
Shen.

Shen,
in regards to arapiles, this is my first jaunt to the area so I am probably not the best person to provide solid info. From what I have been told it is around 4- 5 hours from melbourne, http://www.chockstone.org/Arapiles/Arapiles.htm, the chockstone guide provides alot of information. As you are able to organise you own transport you will also find a map on that page as well as camping and climbing info....
As far as climbing goes my understanding is that it is not a big sport crag, though that is not to say that there aren't sport climbs there.
Mind if I join this trip? well according to others more well informed than I it seems that there is going to be over 1000 people there over the easter weekend so you could probably join just about any trip you like once you are there. Don't know whether you will get your fix, more likely that you may just only get to wet your appetite..
hope this helps

Thanks for the info, Tel... Looks like I need to do two things - take a longer trip back to Victoria and learn trad before I do. I can boulder, but I really suck at it (not to mention, I'm chicken-shit of heights without the security of a rope).
Just looking at the routes guide - it seems that Camel's hump and Weeribee George may be more viable options for me. Will there be anyone climbing out there this Easter? Or anyone interested to go? Anyway, if you are, just drop me a line.
Cheers,
Shen.

Update FYI:
Just to let you know, we'll be leaving on Friday pretty early (no time as yet but early). If you can't make it with Tel, you are welcome to join us. I know of someone else who MIGHT be driving up a bit earlier (Wednesday or Thursday), and can check if there is room with him.
Drop a line on this thread if you still need some assistance in getting there.
Petter.

Hi Petter,
Not sure if I'll be able to meet your timing. I'm flying down from Sydney on Friday morning and should arrive in Melbourne 8:30am, although I could see if I can arrange to fly down earlier... I really would love to get out and climb some natural rock as I'd hate to think that I lugged my gear half-way around the world just for weight training.
Don't really want to put you out, so if I don't make it into Melbourne early enough, what I can do is try to get out there on my own and meet up with you and your crew. I was just taking a look the map and it looks pretty straightforward getting to Natimuk. I'm guessing I should be able to get directions once I'm in the town? If you've got a mobile, I'll call if I get lost. If not, well, I'm sure the drive will be nice...
My mobile receives email messages if you send it to: 0123131037@sms.maxis.net.my (but I think it's only good for about 160 characters); otherwise you can just email me at: slilee@yahoo.com
Thanks much, Petter.
Cheers,
Shen.
