Canberra Climbers’ Association
Climbing Trip on Real Rock
For those with some experience climbing in or outdoors

At Booroomba Rocks
On Sunday 26th October

Most suitable for those who have only climbed in the gym or have a little experience on rock.

Experienced climbers from the Canberra Climbers Association will be teaching and guiding small groups on the beautiful granite of Booroomba.

There will be no charge for the outing although all participants need to be current members of the CCA (you can join on the day for $15).

Booroomba is a large and spectacular cliff with some easier single and multi pitch climbs. The style of climbing at Booroomba is “traditional” meaning the leader carries and places the equipment needed to protect the group as they climb.

What you will need to bring
Climbing harness
Climbing shoes
Climbing helmet (essential)
A locking carabiner (one or more if you have them)
A belay device (the guides will have some spares of these)

Some or all of these items are available for hire from Canberra Indoor Rockclimbing.

As we will be out in the weather for a good part of the day, you will also need sunscreen, perhaps a light weight long sleeve shirt, a hat - a short peaked hat or legionnaires style hat that can fit under the helmet is a good idea, lunch and nibbles and lots of water – a close fitting camelback style hydration system can be used on the climbs.

Wear lighter walking shoes for the walk in and the scrambling to the base of climbs, as you will need to attach them to your harness during the climbing.

We will meet at the Tharwa Shop at 8am and then drive together to Booroomba, about 17km along to and up the Apollo (Honeysuckle Ck Tracking Station) road.

Now, I just have to make it to Lindfield Rocks and back to Booroomba in one weekend! :-)
