Hey Tom,

ok here's some info for you (i was only climbing for 6 months before i moved from UK so there will be plenty more people with better info). Take the walk up to Scafell pike (it's the highest lump in england) there are a shitload of multi-pitch routes on the way up (the lords rake on the right hand side has some impressive climbs). I think the rock is ryolite but don't hold me to that.
A great climb to do is a 2 pitch classic VS (about 16/17) called "Overhanging Bastion" such a good climb with a walk off top. 2nd pitch is where the meat and two veg is! Step around a pinnacle to an airy ledge with an 80m vertical drop. Lake district classic in thirlmere.

As for bouldering, you can not go to the north of england without staying around caley rocks. It's near leeds and has enough bouldering to wear your mat out! Some impressive problems there going up to about 6m. You can't go there without trying the classicaly named "Bob's bastard"

Get yourself the book "yorkshire gritstone" has a picture of fatty Jon Dunn wearing a nasty pair of yellow lycra tights and blue t-shirt (or blue tights and yellow t-shirt) Either way he looks swedish!!!

Then you can come back and use the classic line "yeh but what have you ever done on grit!!!"
