I'd be wary of a climbing gym running FREE lead climbing courses. Likewise if you find that most people are running courses for $150 and then you find someone running a course for $40. You usually get what you pay for and legitimate companies pay the proper insurances, the proper guides, and the proper fees. Another way of choosing a good course is to have a look at the course notes or talk to the company about the course plan. Of course there is nothing wrong with apprenticing yourself to a more experienced climber.
