Great TR Wendy. I climbed there about 12 years ago and the memories and sweaty palms have all returned!!
I lead both pitches of Stormbringer and it was good rock compared to every other route we climbed there! I took a lead fall close to the ground on Stormbringer when a hand hold broke - at least my small wire kept me off the ground (just), but not my belayer!
Also climbed Man o' War (19*). I wrote in my copy of Simey's Guide: "Shocking Rock" and "Protection behind loose rock" "Never again".
Silly me was warned as Simey had written:
"An old fashioned battle up the loose line on the L side of the major yellow wall."
BUT I didn't expect it to be that loose (and such big loose blocks) and that the protection was in the loose stuff! At the time I really thought I was soloing a difficult 19 on the worst rock I've ever climbed on! Turns out I was right!!
We climbed other routes too, but the memories have been suppressed!
At the time I didn't understand the allocation of the star, but over the years I've learnt to enjoy Simey's humour!
Wouldn't even walk along the bottom of the cliff without a helmet on!
