Mate I reckon Bogong might be worth a crack, last weekend was icy as at Falls, o/night temps have been very low also with very low daytime temps for the NE. Let me know how you go, gimme a hoi if you wanna borrow any gear :-)

Anyone got any recent observations? I know of someone who was out at Crosscut Saw last weekend and enjoyed himself but I'm wondering if there's much in condition on Buller or Bogong (ie, a little more accessible!)

hi guys.
i was up on the west ridge of mt buller on saturday.
i approached form the top of doherty's rd in the mansfield state forest, walked up the ridge to the summit. the last say 600ish meters of the approach was mixed soft snow and rocks, with zero ice down low. Further up, above the serious rocky ridge part, the terrain changed to wind-scoured plate ice, which was super sketchy (i had a fully loaded pack, snowboard, poles and snowshoes, no crampons). the upper part of the west most chutes, was all ice, and very thin. the ridge, closer to the summit was an easy walk, with a nice little snow cornice to walk on....
after that, a nice lunch was had in the village, yum yum
