The CCA has done quite a bit of track work up there believe it or not in the last year or
so thanks to David Cregan & co. There have been anchors at the top of Closer In for the
last decade if you know where to look. This will bring you straight down the middle of
the central slabs, the problem is for most if not all rap anchor sites above the northern
slabs is that rope drag is a killer. You won't be able to pull your ropes once you have
raped in. I speak for experience here, fixing 3 ropes on the way down and climbing with
another - 4 ropes in total is not the best modus operandi. In general the erosion waxes
and wanes depending on the season and amount of rain, the northern buttress approach
has been a jungle for the last few years. I nearly got creamed by a Indiana Jones
Temple of Doom style boulder dislodged by Mad Mal when we were descending the
northern approach a couple of years ago.
