Why I'll miss deep water soloing when I get back to Australia
For the second time this Summer, a group of us from the DC area headed out to Summersville Lake, in West Virginia and hired a pontoon for the day. The lake is drained in September/October, but at the moment, there's a lot of climbs (some bolted, some not) that can only be reached by the water. Anyway, here are the photos, better than any words to describe the day:
First climb of the day - Lara heading to the arete
... and Boer making his way up the arete
Henry finds a funky hand traverse
Meanwhile, Ocean reclines on Mr Tibbles and watches Alyce climb
Clare climbs, while Henry and Mr Tibbles look on (that turtle got around - until his untimely demise at the hands of Ness' incredibly long nails)
Lara and Captain Duckie head up another climb
Fat Dude jumps off the arete at Longs Point
Val (white rabbit) at Pirates Cove
The day ended when a thunderstorm rolled over around 2, and a lot of people decided that they didn't want to be out on a large body of water on a metal boat while there was lightning around. After returning the boat, a couple of us headed back out to some of the deep water soloing areas you can walk in to, while the rest of the pikers went shopping or hiking |
