Quick trip report from an awesome long weekend at Moonarie.

Preparations for the long weekend at moonarie this year were a bit more involved due to the theme of Frocktober. Some of the regulars were possibly scared off by the thought but the team present rose fantastically to the occasion.

Most teams (carloads) arrived late on friday night. Saturday was a beautiful clear and warm moonarie spring day. Ronnie, DJ Benny C and myself set about preparing and climbing a few new routes in the LIttle great wall area and produced two classic routes.

With 3 bolts and some gear and about 25 metres long with some superb intricate face climbing, I sent Frocks and Short Shorts first go and thought it about 21 (Benny C thought this was a massive sandbag). Ronnie and i had no idea so we gave it 21 anyway.

Next up was the removal of a large loose block from Ronnie's project. it weighed about 500kg and rocked when pushed gently. I had belayed ronnie on the route a few weeks earlier directly below the block and it scared the shit out of me. to avoid tremendous carnage. ronnie set up a haul system and placed 2 bolts in the block. me and benny C were on haul duties and ronnie prodded it out. luckily there wasnt too much carnage.
Ronnie sent the route next shot. Devil's Advocate went at about 22 45m. a stunning route that benny complained was a complete sandbag again. Hah - it's moonarie.

Everyone was eagerly anticipating the night's festivities. It all started just after dinner when Limmo got his gear on first. a beatiful purple and black number and a long black wig. stunning. He also picked up the most votes forthe best dressed award. Most of the dresses were quite short and skimpy (probably designed for shorted women). 6'6" ronnie looked like pauline hanson in his skimpy little number. Everyone ended up doing a little strut ont he catwalk in front of the car headlights with applause from a neighbouring campsite. Some visiting Vics (Rich and co) also got in the action and managed to fit in some extra dresses that Jonno S had brought up. A in all a classic night. havent seen the photos yet but may post some when they become available.

Sunday saw a few hung-over climbers back at the crag. the walk in being great for the hangovers. The classic 3 pitch Metal Storm 22 received an heap of ascents by various parties. (du) Ronnie managed an impressive ascent of Body Freefall direct finish (27) on the monday and Sally Ely impressively ticked Body Freefall (25). Rich and I also managed clean ascents of Body free fall. Mick wells also managed a Short shorts ascent of body free fall also (while wearing his girlfiend's tiny shorts)

Ex VCC member Michelle Neuman (now a member of team Delaide), managed ascents of Sweet Fire, and Aphrodite (which apparently had no holds near the crux - impressive for a 13)

alll in all a great weekend. Stay tuned for the next frocktober (2005) and Movember (to be held soon in either Araps or gramps).
