The sign on the gate says "management vehicles and walkers only" so I guess walking in is ok (we did
yesterday and nobody arrested us).
I think the gates have been put in to help manage erosion rather than anything to do with the fires.
probably a fair call. Ive been amazed at just how trashed that road has got in just a few months of
climbing traffic. The walk-ins are still fairly reasonable by gramps standards....the walk in to the ravine
has probably doubled, the approach to the olive caves probably 10 times what it was (but still only 20
min).
Its a shame from a convenience point of view though...
