Josef, yes the Calanques are often closed in September but the powers that be have recently started being more flexible about this and put up fire closures on the web the night before. Even then, unless it's really bad, there are a couple of good spots that you can usually get foot access too if you go there before 11am (Sugiton and En-Vau). There are also some other areas (eg Rocher des Goudes) that you can get away with visiting if you can't, um, read the signs in French (insert winky smiley face here)
The idea about a boat is a really good one too. There are lots of climbs right from the water and drinking a beer or two on the deck with the mediterranean sunet behind would be pretty frickin good. Another approach friends have used is to hire sea kayaks from Cassis to access climbing areas. Just be careful of doing this on a day when the Mistral is blowing or you could end in Corsica...
