climberman is right that australian alpine soils are very sensitive and shallow. they are also very low in organic matter and dont redily break down s$##.

One of the things i use to love about the snowys was the ability to drink the crystal clear mountain water straight out of the streams. But this is less appealing with people S%$&ing in the catchment. or discovering presents uncovering in the spring as the snow melts.

Please carry out your POOPS. Its not as nasty as you might think. It is standard now in much of north america to cart out your crap.
