Re: French Alps: I found that Australians need a working visa to work in France and that they are almost impossible to get. Maybe you can find a way around this Mousey. I believe EU nationals can work there and stay for as long as they want. We are planning on a trip to the France and the UK from August to January. I looked into the Portes du Soleil area and found some good accommodation but it appears everything closes down from late summer until 16 December. It seems they have a late snow season and for a few years there hasn't been much snow until January. We have decided on the Herault area in the south of France. That way we'll be near summer activities and beaches + Montpellier until the ski season and will be less than 2 hours drive from slopes in the South West. I have found very decent cheap accommodation and skiing is much cheaper compared to the Alps. Maybe the snow's not as good in the south west. Should check it out though. Spain is close by too.
Has anyone spent time in the Languedoc-Roussillon area summer or winter? Anyone know of ski conditions. I read Garreth's posts re Montpellier.
Re: Oz snow...I thought there was heaps of snow in NSW?? We have had such cold weather in Sydney and rain. Usually that means snow in the south. There have been heavy falls in the Canberra area.
