hi Brad, I'm originally from that region (Almaty Kazakhstan) and I've done plenty of climbs over in Tien Shan including Khan Tengri and Pobeda. This was years ago though. I've been living in Melbourne last 10 years but I still know touroperators in Almaty, most of them personally. Pls drop me an email if you're interested and I'll be happy to share all I know.
