You can definitely see the variation between multi-stemmed thin-trunk snow gums in some areas and the gnarly old single thick gums (that hurt when you plough into them on skis!), and the explanation about fire pattern makes sense when you've got multiple post-fire recovery strategies.
Now to explain why there always seems to be a perfectly gnarled old thick stemmed snow gum accompanying every high country hut, conveniently positioned for composing photos...
