I went to Epaminondas Buttress for the first time at the weekend.
The start of the walking track isn't immediately obvious from the remains of the campground but is visible and very quickly becomes obvious as you reach the first wooden steps. After that it's mostly in good condition and easy to follow. There are some spiky, holly-like plants (are these native?) and some other prickle bushes so long trousers are recommended. The track becomes a little vague in a couple of places but never for very long. Many of the yellow arrows are still there. Basically, reaching the main Mt Difficult crag is totally fine.
Getting from there to Epaminondas Buttress required some bush-bashing. We found the odd cairn but the track wasn't clear to us. We tried to take a more direct route back down which was a bad idea as we ended up bush-bashing almost all the way down to the bottom of the hill, although there were a few cairns about for most of the way. Some of that pink tape for marking the track would be helpful if anyone wanted to put it in (and it's allowed). As an added incentive there is some gear to be bootied out of the second belay on Sword in the Stone as I lacked the mental fortitude to finish it off.
