I'm trying to figure out what this crack is, up the top of Major Mitchell gully, right hand side. It's up behind Missing Link, where highliners have been setting up lines to Bluff Major and Dunes Buttress, and faces towards Dunes. Going by Louise's book, it sounds like it might be Natchez Trace (18). Can anyone confirm?

(Great jamming and packs a decent punch into its rather short length. My second thought it was harder than Claw, but I'm not sure about that. Despite its state of neglect, I'd actually recommend it if you're up that way.)

It is Natchez Trace. I quite liked it as well, but I'm predisposed to that sort of thing. Traversing in underneath it was kinda yuk, but you could rap in off the slack line anchors above it that I'm not very fond of,

U did tha slab approach huh?, cos most peeps say that about offwidths.

I think they say stronger things than that about offwidths. Actually, I say stronger things than that about slabs.

It's a mix of bush bash, slab and scrambling over rocks who also thought their location was kinda yuk and were about to part company with it.

Thanks Wendy. I can confirm that the rap in from the highline bolts (or from a trad anchor if ethical objections preclude that) is a much nicer option. From the top, you can also scramble in easily on the uphill side of Major Mitchell Gully, and then easily step across the slab from the left of the crack. You'd be skipping the initial corner crack then, but the upper crack is probably what you're there for anyway.
