I assume just a wet weather gate as the sign on the gate reads "dry weather road only" and they have done extensive work on the road beyond the gate, which would seem kind of pointless if you are just going to permanently gate the road. But, I think it might be closed now for the rest of the winter. It's not a bad walk, and if you had a bike it would be quite quick, but it is a tad annoying to trudge up a perfectly good road at the end of the day.
