If you are after actual SYDNEY crags there are a couple of options in the Sutherland Shire (about 20km south of the CBD).
Cathedral - Large (30m), gritty, cracks, faces, slabs, lots of bolts. A bit old school in style. All day shade.
Lost World - only 3 routes of worth (22, 23, 24) but they are really fun and quite high for Sydney (18m). Morning until mid afternoon shade.
Lucas Heights - Steep sport between 22-25. Lots of bolts. ALL day shade.
Bangor - Short (8m) Gritstony crag with lots of easier grades. Some bolts, some trad. Int he same region as the above crags so easily combined. All day shade.
All these crags are located above a nice river, reasonably cool. Us locals have been climbign there all month and it is very pleasant. Drought is good! No seepage or humidity! And much less mosquitoes then a usual summer (still - bring mozzie repellant.)
Sydney Sea Cliffs are fun in the afternoon (they face generally east - so forget about them until the afternoon). Rock is pretty appalling quality by most standards but the atmosphere is pretty cool. |
