I did The Fear on Boxing Day 1986 while the Sydney to Hobart was going out. You should have seen the looks on the faces of the proletariate as a skinny, pimply 17 year old came over the top. My second, who weighed in at 90kg, then fell and was left hanging. He took well over an hour to prussik up on his shoe-laces while I held him on the belay that I had clipped in to my harness. That was the day I learnt the value of an isolation loop in one's belay. No rescue needed though! |
