My favourite climb at Point Perp is 'The Deeps' (19). Many moons ago (2002?) I met you, Ivan and Werner et al. out there, and you guys convinced me to lead it. At the time I found it ball-busting scary, as it was my hardest trad lead at the Point. The climbing is spectacularly positioned, as the sandy breaks and pockets take you away from the corner and toward NZ, eventually turning the arete toward Hawaii, and into the final bottomless corner with mind-numbing exposure. It felt like every pitch I had ever led in my life was stretched out together beneath me, eventually disappearing between the barnacle-covered boulders thrashed with foam, into a mysterious sea the colour of which I have only ever seen at PP. Later we all got wonderfully drunk on dollar-something schooners at the Currarong RSL/bowls club (I forget which) and told lies, although it appears your guide-book prophecy came true. Well done! I can't wait to see it, and get back to one of the most special crags in the world.
