years back i slept in my car at thompson's point and drove about 15 minutes away to swim/wash in a small river. wasn't too cold, just chilly. i couldn't afford the camping across the river. it takes ages for me to save up a ticket to Oz from NA, so saving $10 /night is huge. as long as you pack out your own rubbish and bury your poo, should be fine. but, the locals who rocked up to drink and fart about trashed the place over the weekend so i moved on. i would hope any council people would realize that the climbers aren't near as bad as the local drunks. maybe not
