i did the trip you're talking of in oct last year.. 3 of us camped up in the cave up top for 3 nights and down in bottom camp the rest of the week and you could have bivied or tented on the 'top camp' but no-one did while we were there.
Although we got a bit of cabin fever being stuck inside the cave while it was raining one full day; trying to stay warm with our fire, the rest of the time it was warm-hot days and you had to stick to the shaded walls which weren't that plentiful. It was however a a great time and although the walk-in is steep and shade-free, it's not all that long, like neil said, bout 45 without packs and coming down is no prob. If you're lucky there'll still be some water in the creek half-way down you can splash around in like we did a couple of times. the tank up top is a god-send though and big thanks to the SA boys for getting it up there (who were also great hosts as well!)

btw the drive up isn't much fun, nice to break it up with a stopover at araps or adelaide or both ;-)
