Kangaroo Valley

It's been a while and I've moved to the ACT to work for The Man.

Started to climb out at Nowra and noticed that, on the down Moss Vale Rd there are some high, unbroken cliff lines surrounding Kangaroo Valley.

Check it (might need to copy it all into your browser):

Does anyone know if they have climbs on them?

I've climbed on a few of the cliffs surrounding Kangaroo Valley. I found that accessing the better looking cliff lines was pretty hard and some of the other cliff lines are chossy as hell. This was way back before Google Earth (the crag hunter's friend) was around.

I had some friends who lived on a large co-operative property on the Upper Kangeroo River Rd, bordering on the edge of the Buderoo NP. The cliffs overlooking the property looked fantastic and I'm pretty sure they could be accessed via the Buderoo Track through the NP. They are west facing and they really did look awesome. I remember a mind blowing arete. Actually, that whole plateau looks worth checking out.

Thanks for reminding me.

A lurker sends me this via PM:

Has anyone tried to access these cliffs by Wallaby Hill Rd? Looks like a 10min walk to the top from there.

From the road I'd have said that they average around 70m high.

I think I know your phantom lurker and that's pretty much what I meant when I said they were hard to access.

Given the huge amounts of good rock easily accessible off the Turpentine Rd (around 20-30mins away), I don't really think it's worth frigging around trying to access the cliffs in Kangaroo Valley.

go have a look down in the nature reserve down by the river, its about 2kms up Bendeela rd on the left.
There are some small crags down the back by the river there (easy access not sure of rock quality). If u follow the fire trial all the way down you will find a piller style rock on the water board land on your left, maybe 10 min walk and u jump a big silver gate, cant remember what the pillar is called, but there are some bolts on the top of it in the middle and u can place top rope anchors off it, scramble/climb up left side to get to top.

I have heard of people climbing the west face of mount carialoo (not sure on spelling), but all the locals know where it is.
Also easy access to cliffs up mount scanzie rd, the ones i have looked at just fall apart in your hands.

im the same with wallwombat, there are so many good crags in 20 to 30mins drive from KV

Yeah there is climbing in Kangaroo Valley, but yes access is a pain.

With the areas around Wingello and New Nowra so close with unlimited virgin rock with 5 minute access from the car, is it worth the effort in Kangaroo Valley ?
